WHAT IS THE FIRE FOR SCOTLAND?
FIRE FOR SCOTLAND is a movement that seeks to ignite a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit across Scotland. As believers from African nations, you carry a unique fire within you. A fire born from resilience, community, and a deep-rooted faith that has weathered storms. Your voices, your prayers, and your presence are crucial in this season of awakening.
Now is the time for Kenyan and African believers to rise up and give back to a nation that has given so much to us. Through Fire for Scotland, we can help reignite the flame of faith that once burned brightly and ensure that Scotland’s rich Christian legacy continues for generations to come. This appeal is not just about nostalgia or historical recognition—it is about responding to a spiritual need. Scotland gave its best to the world, and now it’s our turn to give back.
INTRODUCTION TO SCOTLAND
Scotland is a part of the United Kingdom (UK) and occupies the northern third of Great Britain, shares a border with England in the south
and packs some of the most stunning scenery in all of the UK into it’s borders. Scotland is nearly one-third of the United Kingdom’s land area, consisting of the northern part of the island of Great Britain, and more than 790 adjacent islands, principally in the archipelagos of the Hebrides and the Northern Isles. To the south-east, Scotland has its only land border, which is 96 miles (154 km) long and shared with England; the country is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, the North Sea to the north- east and east, and the Irish Sea to the south. Edinburgh is the capital and Glasgow is the largest of the cities of Scotland.
Scotland has three indigenous languages: English, Scots, and Scottish Gaelic. Overall, the use of Scotland’s indigenous languages other than English has declined since the 19th century. The 2011 census indicated that 63% of the population had “no skills in Scots”. The use of Gaelic is confined to 1% of the population.
Scotland’s population was 5,490,100 as of mid-2023, according to the National Records of Scotland (NRS). This is a 0.8% increase from the previous year, and the largest increase in one year since 1946-1947. The main driver of population growth was people moving to Scotland from abroad and other parts of the UK. Around 70% of the country’s population live in the Central Belt, a region between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Scotland has had a census every 10 years since 1801, except The 2021 census was moved to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her population has been increasing for the last 20 years.
WELCOME MESSAGE

BISHOP PROF. LUKAS NJENGA
Vision Bearer
Greetings and welcome to Fire for Scotland!
Over the last 20 years, my family and I have had the immense pleasure of serving the Lord in Scotland and we have learned great things about this amazing Nation as well as it’s very warm people and their wonderful hospitality.
Having spent more than half of my adult life in the United Kingdom, I feel that I have gained the social and legal rights to be a Scottish man.
Therefore I can speak on behalf of this country and say to you: Come and help us put Scotland back on the Christian map, restoring it’s
popularity as the ‘Land of the Book’
ABOUT SCOTLAND
The Church in Scotland
As per the 2022 Census, a majority of Scots (51.12%) reported not following any religion. The most practiced religion is Christianity (38.79%), mostly the Church of Scotland (20.36%) and Roman Catholicism (13.3%).
The History of Christianity in Scotland
The story of the development of religion in Scotland is a complex one. Little or nothing is known about religious practices before the arrival in Scotland of Christianity, though it is usually assumed that the Picts practiced some form of “Celtic polytheism”, a vague blend of druidism, paganism and other sects. It also comprises of a long history, beginning with the arrival of Saint Ninian in 400 CE, and continuing through the Reformation, the rise of Catholicism, and the emergence of other denominations.
Saint Ninian’s mission to Scotland in 400 CE led to many conversions. In the 6th century, Saint Columba established a monastery on the island of Iona, which became a center for spreading Christianity in Scotland and Northern England.
Influence on Scotland’s Architecture
The history of Christianity in Scotland has also influenced the country’s architecture, with the arrival of Christianity bringing new artistic influences from the continent. The foundations established by Saint Ninian and Saint Columba are still places of pilgrimage today.
Lona is arguably one of the most important Christian sites in Scotland. It came into being when a group of monks made the perilous trip from Ireland to the west of Scotland in the fifth century. It was St Columba, one of the most well-known of these early evangelists, who founded the monastic settlement on Iona in 563.
THE DECLINE
OF THE CHURCH
FROM THE CITY OF SPIRES – TO SADDENING HEADLINES
Today if you searched for news of the Church in Scotland you would see headlines like the below to pick just a few:
- Former Aberdeen church now a heavenly home as it hits the market for £375,000 Jesus Has Left the Building’: Scotland’s Secular Slide and Signs of Hope.
- Unless the Church of Scotland returns to the Gospel, it will die.
- Growth, Decline and Extinction of UK Churches
- Situation is ‘urgent and critical’ for Church of Scotland amid falling membership and financial challenges.
- UK turns away Christianity.
- Church of Scotland sell-off comes as most people say they have no religion
In the city of Aberdeen, 95 churches served a population of 180,000. Sinclair Ferguson, who arrived as a university student in 1965, called it
“a city of spires.” There were magnificent churches or places of worship almost everywhere made of extraordinarily strong, powerful, almost overpowering granite
The Church of Scotland had it all—good theological heritage, good attendance, and good buildings. It also had the strong support with little interference of the government. It is reported that the cracks started to show when the giving plummeted despite the massive membership. Shortly after, Scottish Christianity collapsed. In 60 years,
the Church of Scotland plummeted from 1.3 million to 300,000 members. Meanwhile, the proportion of Scots who claim no religion has risen to nearly 60 percent today.
Aberdeen is now the most secular city in Scotland while Scotland is the most secular country in the United Kingdom. Sadly, Scotland’s massive granite church buildings continue turning into mosques, Hindu temples, discotheques, restaurants, residential apartments and bars.

OUR APPEAL
The Call to Action: Giving Back to Scotland
For centuries, Scotland has given its best to the world – now it is time for us to give back to Scotland. Thousands of Christians around the
world, directly or indirectly, have benefited from Scottish missionaries who dedicated their lives to spreading the gospel. The time has come
to stand with Scotland and revive the flame of faith that once burned so brightly.
Scotland needs a new generation of missionaries and Christian leaders to bring the hope of Christ to its communities. Fire for Scotland seeks to mobilise missionaries, financial supporters, and Christian congregations to help restore the spiritual landscape of this great nation. Whether you have been touched by Scottish missionaries in the past or simply feel called to help, this is your opportunity to be part of something transformative.
The Case for Kenya Giving Back to Scotland
Christians directly benefited from the sacrifices and efforts of Scottish missionaries and educators. Today, our education, health, agriculture and even some of our key industries bear the unmistakable marks of Scottish influence. Today, the very places where our children learn, and our communities receive medical care, are the result of the seeds sown by these faithful men and women.
Just as Scotland gave to us, this is an opportunity for Christians to give back. By supporting Fire for Scotland, we can stand with a nation that once stood with us, helping to restore the church in Scotland and reignite its spiritual influence.
The Appeal: A Call to Kenyan Christians
As we reflect on the rich Christian heritage we’ve received from Scottish missionaries, we are presented with a unique opportunity to
give back. Scotland is now in need of spiritual renewal, and we can be part of the solution. Whether we have directly benefited from their missions or not, we cannot ignore the debt of gratitude we owe to the nation that so faithfully sowed into our land.

CHRISTIANITY IN SCOTLAND:
The Legacy of St. Columba
St. Columba, an Irish missionary, brought
Christianity to Scotland in AD 563 and
established a monastic community on
the island of Iona, which became one of
the most influential Christian centres in
Western Europe.
DCCCF
Diaspora Council of Churches,
Charities & Fellowships
(DCCCF)
The Kenyan Diaspora Led Churches have been in existence for the last 25 years. Prior to their establishment, a majority of the Diaspora Communities worshiped in the established congregations within the mainline Evangelical and Pentecostal churches. Many of the Clergy came in as missionaries to the congregations and supported the establishment and ministry in those congregations. Towards the end of the 1990’s Clergymen and start-up pastors (Mainly in business, employment or in academia started planting churches in the UK, Europe, USA, Australia, Asia, Africa, among other countries where Kenyans had settled. In 1994 Bishop Lukas Njenga, an Anglican Clergy and a lecturer in Evangelical Bible Seminary saw a niche opportunity among the Christian immigrant
community and through the Anglican Renewal Ministries and established the Vision of The Heart for The City.
“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me [a]to heal the broken hearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are [b]oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
LUKE 4: 18
Under the support of The Anglican Church in England, Bishop Lukas invested his time in Ministry in South Africa, Bury St Edmunds, Maid-stone in Kent, St Albans, Woking Surrey, Plymouth, Manchester, Birmingham, Bedford, London, York and Plymouth before Settling in Scotland in June 2002.
He was highly influenced by the effective and transformational ministry of Bishop Mark Kariuki (his spiritual father and mentor) through the Deliverance Church International (DCI), The Anglican Renewal Ministries (ARM), Sharing of Ministries Abroad (SOMA), Toronto Airport Church, John Wimber Ministries, Derek Prince Ministries among others. These organisations helped to shape a council of Churches in the Diaspora mainly of ordained Anglican Clergy which he leads by traveling extensively across the World up to date. In the light of the above ministry and the increase of Diaspora church lead churches and ministries we feel a calling to reach out to our other brethren and build a robust internationally recognised institution that will aid the Diaspora Communities to re-evangelise the known western world and re-dig the wells of our fore- fathers who laboured to bring the Gospel to Kenya and the entire African Continent.
The Establishment of Diaspora Churches has continued and we can now document approximately 700 established congregations mainly having been founded and established by Kenyan Christian leaders in the Major cities of the above named countries.
Rev Lukas Njenga during his first ordination into servant hood by the Anglican church in 1991 at all Saints Cathedral Nairobi
Alongside the congregations we have about 200 Ministries which are registered as Charitable, non-governmental Christian organizations and about 90 Christian fellowship most of which are established among the various Kenyan communities with a few major ones cutting across all communities. We also have
professional fellowships and Entrepreneurial fellowships which altogether constitute the membership of the Kenyan Diaspora Council of Churches, Charities and Fellowships.
Bishop Prof. Lukas Njenga has now been called by the DCCCF to step up from congregational ministry and spearhead the Vision, Mission and objectives of this Organization with an aim of supporting the institutionalisation, legalisation and buy in across the World starting with UK and USA among other priority Countries where we will establish our Vision.

About
THE CITY OF RETURN
About Us
Proximity point City, a diaspora city of return is designed to attract significant commercial and light industrial activities. The City is owned and run by a wide breath of the Diaspora community which harnesses collective intellectual, financial and communal capacity of the diaspora community, the city sets a world standard on how Diaspora Communities can be marshalled to design world class solutions for their home societies.
Our Location
Salama Sustainable Smart City is a flagship project under the Proximity Point Group, designed to become a transformative urban model in the heart of Kenya’s emerging Usahihi Wealth Corridor. As a mid-sized smart city, Salama integrates modern urban living with rural resilience, digital infrastructure, and green planning. The project exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to city building, where infrastructure, sustainability, and innovation converge to unlock prosperity for future generations.
Strategic Location: Salama Exit, Makueni County
Salama is strategically located at the midpoint between Nairobi and Emali, offering direct connectivity to the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway and the StandardGauge Railway (SGR) bypass. Its positioning at the Salama Exit along the Usahihi Expressway makes it a pivotal node within
the logistics-rich ecosystem of Kenya’s southeast corridor. The city is designed to anchor movement, commerce, and habitation at a national and regional scale.
Smart Urban Design Framework
Salama’s design approach is rooted in three core principles: the Garden City, the Compact City, and the Smart Privacy Gradient. The Garden City concept promotes green infrastructure with buffer zones, tree-lined boulevards, and open public parks. The Compact City emphasizes walkability, density clustering, and mixed-use urban. blocks to maximize land value and minimize sprawl. The Privacy Gradient ensures zoning moves logically from public amenities to semi-private institutions and ultimately private residential zones. These principles guide both the macro and micro planning of Salama’s development.
Phase 1 Development: 500 Acres of Transformation
The first phase of the Salama Smart City development covers approximately 500 acres of prime land. This phase lays the foundation for core urban zones including residential neighborhoods, commercial corridors, institutional campuses, agri-processing clusters, and wellness facilities. The master plan responds to the site’s natural topography and water runoff, embedding sustainability in the very layout of infrastructure. Priority investments include road networks, serviced plots, and pilot projects such as urban farming and educational facilities.
Investor Opportunities Across Sectors.
Salama presents diverse, high-yield investment opportunities in residential, commercial, agricultural, and institutional sectors. Diaspora investors can secure serviced and titled land for homebuilding, while developers can participate in establishing logistics yards, shopping zones, private schools, and tech-enabled business hubs. Investors can also engage in structured PPPs (Public-Private Partnerships) with Proximity Point Group for bulk infrastructure delivery, utilities, and affordable housing clusters. Diaspora Legacy and Secure Landholding.
A key feature of the Salama offering is its tailored approach to the diaspora market. For global Kenyans seeking to invest back home, Salama provides a secure, transparent, and titled property acquisition process within a master-planned city. Whether for retirement villas, family homes, or income-generating properties, the city offers a unique opportunity to be part of Kenya’s next urban frontier. It is not just land—it is legacy.
Financial Outlook and Value Growth
Initial land values are projected to double within five years of Phase 1 implementation, driven by access to infrastructure, zoning value uplift, and institutional anchoring. Commercial internal rates of return (IRRs) are expected to range from 12% to 18% depending on asset class and scale. Early investors can benefit from first-mover advantages and strategic entry pricing, with downstream returns from rentals, resale, or joint venture developments.

Mombasa, boasting a modernized port, serves as the primary gateway to East Africa and is experiencing remarkable annual growth rates. Nairobi, the second fastest-growing city globally, stands as Kenya’s economic epicenter. The USAHIHI Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway, therefore, plays a vital role in establishing an economic bridge between these two major Kenyan cities.
This road serves as the inaugural segment of the Northern Economic Corridor, linking Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to Mombasa. This corridor heavily relies on road transport for freight movement, making this expressway unparalleled in its potential to generate economic opportunities not just for Kenya but for the entire East African region.

Economic Prosperity
The Expressway will fulfill the aspirations of Kenyan citizens by providing dignified and affordable housing while also generating tremendous job opportunities along the corridor. It will facilitates exports with easy access to the port of Mombasa.
Savings
Users will experience significant savings in terms of reduced fuel and maintenance costs due to fewer starts and stops per trip. This cost savings will be particularly beneficial to freight operators.
Environmental Responsibilities
The USAHIHI Expressway will be designed to have minimal impact on the environment in it’s design and materials. By minimizing start-stop fuel consumption, the Expressway will contribute to reduced carbon emissions. Solar energy will power toll plazas along the route, further promoting sustainability.
Electric Vehicle Infrastructure
The installation of electric vehicle charging stations will encourage the use of electric buses and other eco-friendly vehicles on the toll road, contributing to a greener transport system.
